Bonnie Levinson is a multi-disciplinary artist working in painting, collage, mixed media, and multi-image photography. Her passion and enthusiasm are expressed through many creative art forms. She describes her work as a combination of place and how it takes her into the unknown and the atmospheric realm. During the creative process, Levinson’s goal is to transmute her subconscious into beauty, embracing resistance. Her work allows her to enter a portal, a creative meditative space, channeling her years of visual experience in the arts. Levinson’s art balances between control and accident. Her work is featured in private collections, homes, and corporate offices in Manhattan, East Hampton, the San Francisco Bay Area, Malibu, Los Angeles, Aspen, and more. Her career spans over four decades in the arts as an arts administrator, museum educator, curator, and now as a full-time practicing artist.

Bonnie Levinson’s artistic journey is as diverse as it is impressive. Her multi-disciplinary approach allows her to explore and express her creativity through various mediums, each offering a unique lens into her artistic vision. From the vibrant strokes of her paintings to the intricate layers of her collages, Levinson’s work is a testament to her ability to navigate and merge different forms of art seamlessly.

One of the defining characteristics of Levinson’s work is her deep connection to place and atmosphere. This connection is not just about physical locations but also about the emotional and psychological spaces she explores through her art. She often describes her creative process as a journey into the unknown, where she allows her subconscious to guide her. This journey is both introspective and expansive, resulting in artworks that are rich in texture, depth, and meaning.

“The Meeting of Two Worlds” is a prime example of Levinson’s ability to convey complex ideas through her art. This mixed media abstract painting diptych, measuring 48” x 48”, is an expressive depiction of creatures of air and water. By working with a limited palette, Levinson shifts the focus to texture, line, and composition, allowing these elements to dominate the conversation instead of the usual range of colors she employs. The incorporation of reclaimed rope to connect the two canvases adds another layer of meaning, symbolizing both a literal and conceptual connection between the elements depicted.

Her art can be found in a variety of settings, from private homes to corporate offices, reflecting its broad appeal and versatility. Her ability to create works that speak to different audiences and environments is a testament to her skill and vision as an artist.

Her ability to balance control and accident in her work creates pieces that are both deliberate and spontaneous, capturing the essence of her artistic philosophy. Levinson’s work is not just about creating beautiful images but about exploring the deeper connections between place, atmosphere, and the subconscious.

In conclusion, Bonnie Levinson’s work is a vibrant and dynamic exploration of the interplay between different artistic mediums and the emotional and psychological landscapes they evoke. Levinson’s art continues to inspire audiences, inviting them to explore the unknown realms she so beautifully depicts.
