Maridee Hays is a California artist whose work is a vibrant fusion of literature, dance, Eastern studies, psychology, journaling, and studio arts. This eclectic background has culminated in a unique artistic style, deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy and spiritual exploration. Maridee’s art is an ongoing journey into the realms of consciousness and perception, continually evolving as she broadens her vision and explores new ways of seeing.

Maridee’s artistic journey began in California, where her passion for various disciplines laid the foundation for her distinctive approach to art. Her work reflects a profound engagement with Eastern philosophy, a deep love for exploring the depths and breadths of human experience, and a commitment to expanding her own vision. This multifaceted inspiration is evident in her creations, which often incorporate elements of her diverse studies and interests.

One of the defining moments in Maridee’s career was her solo exhibition at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, curated by Roger Clisby. The exhibition was a testament to her dedication and unique perspective.

Maridee earned her Master’s degree under the guidance of Joseph Rafael at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). This period was a formative experience for Maridee, providing her with invaluable insights.

Maridee has also been honored with awards from artists like Wayne Thiebaud, Carlos Villa, Joan Moment, and curator and gallery owner Ruth Branstein. Recently, Maridee received the Best of Show award at the Women’s International in Chico, California.

Maridee’s artistic practice is not confined to her own creations; she is also a dedicated teacher, sharing her knowledge and passion with students in her studio in Napa, California. Her teaching is an extension of her artistic journey, allowing her to inspire and guide others as they explore their own creative paths.

One of Maridee’s notable works is “And Sew It Seems.” Part One has been shown as an independent watercolor. “And Sew It Seems” Part Two is a separate piece enhanced in Photoshop, available in print form. Measuring 23 inches high by 29 inches wide, this piece exemplifies her innovative approach to art. “And Sew It Seems” embodies her philosophy of discovering anew the way we see the world. As a student of consciousness, Maridee revels in moments of shifting perception and the playful surprises that come with artistic creation.

Describing this piece, Maridee shares, “It is an Abracadabra! piece. It made me smile and awe just a bit at the joy and mystery in creating and gave me fuel to go on my way another day.” This sentiment captures the essence of her artistic process—one that is filled with wonder, joy, and a continual quest for deeper understanding.

Maridee’s commitment to her artistic path is driven by an inherent love for discovery and a passion for exploring the boundaries of perception. Her work invites viewers to join her in this journey, to experience the shifts in consciousness and perception that define her creative process. Through her art, Maridee Hays offers a glimpse into the profound and often playful moments that shape our understanding of the world around us.
