    Gallerist Brent Sikkema dies at age 75.

    Brent Sikkema, founding father of Sikkema Jenkins & Co. gallery in New York, has died on the age of 75. He was present in his residence in Rio de Janeiro on Monday with a number of stab wounds, in accordance with a number of information retailers.

    The gallery confirmed Sikkema’s demise and praised his many years of labor on the gallery from 1971 to the current. Companions Meg Malloy and Michael Jenkins, together with gallery employees, wrote within the e-mail: “The gallery is deeply saddened by this nice loss and can proceed to uphold his legacy. Spirit.”

    Born in 1948, Sikma had a huge effect on the artwork scene in New York and past by way of his gallery, initially referred to as Worcester Gardens in Soho. After shifting to Chelsea in 1999, the gallery modified its identify to Sikkema Jenkins & Co. The gallery represents artists equivalent to Louis Fratino and Jeffrey Gibson, and has given necessary early exhibitions to different main modern artists equivalent to Deana Lawson and Mark Bradford.

    On Instagram, artist Kara Walker, who’s represented by the gallery, expressed her condolences, calling Sikma “my champion and the bravest, funniest, most compassionate gentleman to ever go away the farm.”
