Bonnie Levinson is an artist who weaves painting, collage, mixed media, and photography into a seamless creative journey. Her art is a reflection of her personal explorations, merging her internal world with the environments she inhabits. She doesn’t see art as merely the final piece but as a process of discovery and transformation, guided by intuition and openness to the unexpected. Levinson lets her work evolve naturally, inviting both control and accident to coexist in her creative process.

One of her works, The Keys to Light (2022), shows this deep connection to place. Using acrylic on canvas, she captures the essence of her surroundings after moving to Florida. The work, a large-scale 72 by 60 inches, draws on the vibrant colors and textures of her new environment. Rather than simply replicating nature, Levinson taps into the subconscious, transforming her observations into an abstract expression of light, space, and transformation. Her process here, as in all her work, is about creating a balance between impulses and the natural flow of creativity.

Levinson’s sense of place resurfaces in Mapping Adventure (2022). This 48 by 60-inch acrylic painting is an energetic expression of freedom, joy, and spontaneity. Levinson immerses herself in her environment, absorbing its energy and translating it into vibrant colors—greens and blues for nature, oranges, and yellows for optimism, reds and purples for vitality. Her process is rooted in intuition, allowing her emotional connection to the world to guide her hand, transforming the painting into an emotional landscape.

In Into the Atmosphere (2023), Levinson incorporates mixed media, including acrylic, collage, pencil, and gold leaf, to explore the concept of the Earth’s atmosphere as a protective layer. This piece reflects her understanding of the creative process as both a shelter and a source of vulnerability. The gold leaf adds a delicate shimmer, enhancing the work’s sense of fragility and protection. Levinson invites viewers to reflect on their own balance between protection and vulnerability in their creative journeys.

Levinson’s process emphasizes the act of creation over the finished product. For her, it’s less about perfection and more about using art as a tool for meditation and self-discovery. She uses color as a symbol of her internal state—blues and greens for harmony with nature, oranges, and yellows for optimism, and reds and purples for vitality and spontaneity. These intuitive choices bring her emotions to life on the canvas, offering a glimpse into the fluidity of human experience.

Her approach to art embraces obstacles and challenges, viewing them as essential to her growth as an artist. Resistance, rather than something to be avoided, is welcomed and incorporated into the final piece. This philosophy allows her work to evolve in unexpected ways, blurring the lines between control and freedom, the planned and the spontaneous.

Levinson’s art invites viewers into a space of reflection and introspection. Whether through her large-scale acrylic paintings, collages, or mixed-media compositions, she taps into universal themes of memory, place, and emotion. Each work is a personal journey, and through it, she offers others the opportunity to embark on their own inner exploration.

Her art doesn’t just sit on the surface. It pushes viewers to engage deeply and to think about how their environment shapes their emotions and experiences. Levinson’s ability to channel both the personal and the universal makes her work a quiet yet powerful reflection of the human experience, where the journey is just as important as the destination.
