    The newest set of pictures from the British Prime Minister’s official residence

    World leaders passing by means of 10 Downing Avenue, the seat of British political energy, will get a glimpse of life in Newcastle and the North East by means of 9 works on show from the Prime Minister’s well-known black door to the hall to the Cupboard Room.

    The objects are on show at No 10, as a part of an annual program by which the Authorities Artwork Assortment (GAC) selects a website outdoors the capital as its “resident museum” and invitations it to exhibit the works for a 12 months.The works are from the Lane Gallery in Newcastle and embrace works by Louis Grimshaw saint nicholas avenue (1902); Victor Passmore woman holding mirror (c. 1942-45) and Flora Glover’s flood (circa 1941).

    A press release from the Division for Tradition, Media and Sport mentioned 5 of the work represented Newcastle’s cityscape, whereas others pointed to the north-east’s numerous arts scene. “All works are by influential artists from the world, who educate at native artwork colleges or are impressed by native landmarks and landscapes,” DCMS added.

    Conservative arts minister Lord Parkinson mentioned the scheme was a chance to showcase work from galleries throughout the UK. “These works could be seen by all types of individuals, from the president to key employees [such as employees of the country’s National Health Service (NHS)],” he added.

    Parkinson, who’s from North Shields within the north-east of the nation, mentioned the selection of native establishment the Lane Gallery was a “completely satisfied coincidence”.He added: “The very first thing they see after passing by means of the well-known entrance door is a big portrait of Tyne Bridge [Edward Dickey, The Building of the Tyne Bridge, 1928).” The Grade II-listed bridge is the region’s best-known architectural landmarks.

    Julie Milne, chief curator of art galleries at Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums (Laing Art Gallery) tells The Art Newspaper: “One of the most enjoyable things was working with the GAC which looked at our own collection from a different perspective. It is also interesting to see these works in this context [in the domestic setting of No 10]”. An official occasion to open the exhibition will happen later this month.

    The Artwork Newspaper It’s understood that subsequent 12 months’s “resident museum” can be Bradford’s Cartwright Corridor Artwork Gallery, coinciding with the 2025 Bradford Metropolis of Tradition Pageant. Earlier contributors embrace Inexperienced Vivian Gallery in Swansea.

    The GAC has museum standing and its core work is funded by the central authorities. The official assertion is that the gathering “promotes British artwork, performs a key position in British cultural diplomacy, and expresses British smooth energy, tradition and values.”
